Dengue Fever Cases Surge in the Philippines

72,333 Cases Reported in First Half of 2022

Department of Health Warns of Expected Increase During Rainy Season

The Philippines has recorded a significant increase in dengue fever cases in the first half of the year, with over 72,000 cases reported. This spike in cases has raised concerns among health officials, who are warning the public of an expected surge during the rainy season.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the country logged 72,333 dengue cases from January 1 to June 18, 2022. This is a 94% increase compared to the same period in 2021.

The DOH has attributed the surge in cases to several factors, including increased mosquito breeding sites due to the rainy season, as well as the presence of a new strain of the dengue virus.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease that can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle aches, and nausea. In severe cases, dengue fever can lead to hemorrhagic fever and shock.

The DOH has urged the public to take precautions to prevent dengue fever, such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites around their homes, using mosquito repellents, and wearing long-sleeved clothing.

The DOH has also advised people to seek medical attention immediately if they experience any symptoms of dengue fever.
